Who put the ball in the Cobblers’ net? Super Billy Sharp did!
He might have only made 16 appearances for RDFC, but that only served to enhance his legendary status.
In those 16 games during the 2004/05 season, Billy hit 9 goals including a hat-trick against Boston United in the penultimate game to ensure the Club’s Football League survival.
But, of course, Billy was responsible for quite possibly the single greatest moment in the history of RDFC or AFC Rushden & Diamonds, when he scored an injury time winner against Northampton Town to secure a vital 3-2 win. The roof nearly came off Nene Park!
Fresh from captaining his boyhood team Sheffield United to promotion to the Premier League, Billy Sharp is the final addition to the RDFC team for Legends Day, provided that his next club don’t require him in on Sunday, 30th July.
Will you be there to see him play for RDFC again?
