AFC Rushden & Diamonds are thrilled to announce our second new signing of the 2024/25 season, with 33-year-old Calvin Green joining from United Counties League Premier Division South side Bugbrooke St. Michaels.
Green, a defensive midfielder who is also capable in the heart of defence, finished the season as Bugbrooke’s top-scorer last term, with 16 goals. With a hammer of a left foot, Calvin has earned a reputation over the years as a set-piece specialist. Notably last year, a goal Calvin scored for AFC Hackleton following a cheeky corner routine went viral, receiving millions of views and national news coverage: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/av/uk-england-northamptonshire-67686831
Manager Michael Harriman was pleased with his second summer addition, a player that adds vital experience to the squad having played hundreds of games for Bugbrooke, Wellingborough Town and Northampton ON Chenecks over the years: “Calvin Green is an experienced, versatile player that can play across the defence and midfield. He’s a master of the dead ball, a weapon which I’m sure we’ll use to our advantage this season. Crucially, Calvin adds not only experience but quality to the squad and I’m sure he’ll prove to be a strong addition to not just the team, but the group as a whole moving forward.”
Like Aidan Webster earlier, Green felt that the step up to AFC Rushden & Diamonds was something he couldn’t turn down: “This is a great opportunity for me and one I didn’t want to let pass. From the outside looking in, the form since Michael Harriman took over has been brilliant and adding Dan Porter to the mix – someone I know really well – sealed the deal. It was a no-brainer and I can’t wait to get started.”
Calvin will be available for both home and away player sponsorship next month once player sponsorships for the 2024/25 season are open. Please keep an eye on https://afcdiamonds.com and across our social channels for details of this in due course.
