New Signing✍️ | Matty Warburton

AFC Rushden & Diamonds are delighted to announce the signing of experienced attacking midfielder Matty Warburton from Southern League Premier Central side Redditch United.

Warburton becomes Elliot Sandy’s seventh new addition of the summer as preparations continue for the 2026/27 campaign.

The 34-year-old arrives at Hayden Road with an outstanding pedigree across the non-league and professional game. A creative attacking midfielder/forward with an eye for goal, Warburton has enjoyed a distinguished career spanning more than a decade, featuring for clubs including Curzon Ashton, Salford City, Stockport County, Northampton Town, Yeovil Town, FC Halifax Town, Solihull Moors, King’s Lynn Town and most recently Redditch United.

Warburton first made his name at Curzon Ashton, where his goalscoring exploits quickly attracted attention higher up the pyramid. Following spells with Salford City and a successful return to Curzon Ashton, he joined Stockport County and established himself as one of the National League North’s most dangerous attacking players. His performances earned him a move into the Football League with Northampton Town in 2019.

During his career, Warburton has accumulated well over 300 senior appearances and has consistently contributed goals from midfield. His honours include promotion from League Two with Northampton Town and FA Trophy success with FC Halifax Town.

Speaking about the move, manager Elliot Sandy said: “Matty is a player whose quality and experience speak for themselves. He’s played and succeeded at a very high level, brings real leadership qualities and has the ability to influence games in the attacking third. We believe he’ll be a fantastic addition to the squad and we’re delighted to bring him to AFC Rushden & Diamonds.”

Matty has spoken to AFCRDTV this evening and supporters will be able to hear his first interview shortly.

Everyone at AFC Rushden & Diamonds would like to welcome Matty to the Club and we look forward to seeing him in Diamonds colours this season.
